Bechtel, a world leader in the construction of liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, is installing a TETRA system to ensure reliable communications are maintained throughout the Santos Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas (GLNG) Project planned site expansion in Queensland, Australia.

The Santos GLNG Project is a pioneering initiative to convert coal seam natural gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) and is due for completion in 2015. Once converted, the LNG will be transported via a 420 kilometre underground pipeline to an LNG plant on Curtis Island, off the coastline of Gladstone, for export to global markets.

Bechtel is the front end engineering design contractor for the downstream components of the project and selected Damm infrastructure and Sepura terminals, developed by local channel partner Jones Communication in conjunction with Simoco Australasia.

Designed to cover a radius of around eight kilometres from the site itself, the TETRA system will support over 500 radio users equipped with Intrinsically Safe hand-held portables required for this environment.
